Motors come from the factory pre-broken in. But its still a good idea to keep in under 5k. There are two theories of breaking in the motor. 1) Drive it like a grandma until a couple thousand miles 2) Drive it hard(up till 5K). I agree with the second theory. All the research I've done, says to drive it hard. I drove it hard, changed the oil at 500 miles and cut the oil filter open, no metal shaving.

I don't have a surge like you said. Like a few people said above, maybe when its all broken in that will disappear. About the cable, take it to the dealership. Thats what warranty is all about!
