12's in an '05 WRX
Mike, I'm sure you're an enthused motorists like everyone else, but please understand that a lot of guys (and girls) here aren't out to demonstrate how big a set of ***** they have. Simply put, a lot of us here are great drivers with legit racing experience so we don't need to show anyone our cajones. We're not ******* you, but as soon as you come up and say you are better than one of us its on...its on like Donkey Kong.
The people here have a well made point, the WRX is not built especially well for the drag strip. It can be, but takes ends bro. In short, it'll be a grip. A large turbo, bigger than a VF series can accomplish this. Also, running a FMIC will improve your performance at the strip, especially if you plan on making several runs as a TMIC will get heat soaked more. I believe you'll be able to run higher boost numbers as well. A good tune, some decent tires and race gas should see you into the low low 13s and with some practice (Mike, AWD cars are different to drive vs RWD) you'll hit 12s no problem.

OMG THE IRONY!!! That would imply that when you got it it did a 12.8 and we all know that's a lie. That means he bought the car already modded which means he didn't do any wrenching himself. The court is adjourned ladies and gentlemen. Go back to the SRT forum with all the great street racers. I'm glad you can take pride in that.
Weak Sauce.... thanx for the straight up answer and trying to be a keyboard warrior. Sorry I came accross as a jerk. I sometimes get stuck in the street racer mentality... old habbits die hard i guess.
MarkSti.. i think we've talked before about racing before....... oh well.
Is it King Monza or King Mullet, whatever, if you're looking for a drag race only car, you bought the wrong car.
Big heavy v8's like camaros and mustangs were made for going fast in a straight line, wrx's were made for real everyday driving, you know, with turns and stuff!
Btw, it takes more skill to drive a road course than the 1/4 mile, take your new car to some canyons and you'll see what i'm talking about.

Good call tough guy! And to clarify, I said I was a better driver in the 1/4... not road/rally or whatever the hell you wanna call it racing... In fact im not even interested in it. I bought this car primarily for a fun car to drive thinking i could make it decently quick like gilmore's used to be.... :-)

If you talk to people with the slightest amount of respect none of us would have flamed on you to begin with. As far as drag racing goes, all it take is a good rower and it's all about the same. The car does all the work whereas in auto-cross you can have an awesome car and get your *** beat by a daily driver if you don't know what your doing.

I disagree my "sti" wrx is the best drag car ive ever goten the awd launch gives my at least 3 car lenghts at the start not many cars can catch me with almost 400hp in a car that weighs about 3000 lbs on the dot. (weight at local dump lol). Oh and 22 months ago i blew my first tranny at 1st day( Bad tranny) 97 miles on th OD. LOL.
^^Disagree all you want, but Subaru had no intention of us taking our cars to the drag strip, hence WRX=world rally x.
Awd isn't meant for launching hard on super sticky pavement=broken tranny.
Its was built with the intention of turning, autox, canyons, rally roads, etc..........
Read the first few posts and you'll understand that Monza wanted to know a good "CHEAP" setup for running 12's in a wrx non sti, then we chimed in saying "it aint gonna be cheap, but it can be done.
Btw, he broke his tranny too.
