Im super noob when it comes to Subaru. my o4 impreza wrx is making a knockin noise and i have no clue as to why. could it be because its so cold outside?

i also have another question.
when i let off the gas and the car gets back to idel it makes a faint whistle noise almost like a chirp sound , sounds like its coming from the back of the car any ideas?

 

The answer to your second question is your fuel pump, it is just behind the back seats under a small access hatch. I covered my hatch with four layers of soundproofing and I can still hear it whine (02 WRX).

isnt that just piston slap. my 97 impreza had it really bad when it was cold but then the engine whould warm up and it would go away.

 

idk i have never had a car make that noise before do all subaru's do that?

 

its pretty common on the subarus at work (i am a mechanic) but if it gets to bad i think it can score the cylinder walls. so subaru makes pistons that have a teflon coating on the sides of them that seem to get rid of that problem.
