It hasn't gone on sale, yet - still shooting for a Feb-2004 release date. They are taking pre-orders now.

quote from Trey of Cobb Tuning, in their on-site forum:
"The basic advantage is that you'll get one of the first ones out there. While we are using the pre-orders as a gauge of the overall interest, the ultimate reason for offering the Pre-Ordering was simply due to the fact that SOOOOO many people wanted to pre-order. So, our attitude is to let the people who want to pre-order do so. If you can't find a reason to, then don't. There is also the fact that only so many units can be built a week. While those numbers are pretty high, so are the amount of pre-orders we've been taking."

After you get your early production AccessPort, let us know how it works out for you - ease of use, features, any drawbacks or shortcomings, quality of instruction manual, etc. TIA.

Yes to all three questions. What AccessPort isn't going to do is allow user custom tuning. That feature is reserved for a future product from Cobb Tuning. Here's a link to the maps currently available for the AccessECU.

Here is a FAQ page that covers AccessECU and AccessPort.

I'm definitely gonna get it. It's almost half the price of the UTEC, and can even read cel codes and reset them. I figure i most likely won't be tuning the ecu myself, so the accessport is perfect for me!

Just wanted to add, i heard that getting your ecu reflashed or getting the accessport or UTEC is pretty much useless unless you have a turboback. Is this right?

Simply put. NO. You obviously are going to get more HP with less restriction but there is still 25-30 HP to free up just with the ECU.

Just ordered mine

What I liked about the sales pitch:

Have 10 maps with you ready to flash at anytime. Of course you probably won't need 10 maps with you but it'll be cool to choose from these depending on what you're doing that day:

1. 92 octain stage 1 (to begin with)
2. economy
3. Valet
4. Anti-theft

Also, I plan on doing several upgrades in the coming months. It'll be nice to be able to flash my own ECU as many times as I need to. Just D/L the map and go.

Finally, I'll be able to flash as much as I like without hurting the ECU.

Only Cons (to some):
Can't custom tune. I'm not tech-smart enought to do that anyway.

You have to shut the car off to re-flash (no biggie)
