What is an engine knock?

what is an engine knock? i think it happened to me! i was getting on the freeway in my 05 sti shifting from 3rd to 4th (full throttle at 20 psi of boost) and i saw a yellow light flash below my rpm guage. it only flashed once, and it happened so quick that i wasn't able to read it. that is the seccont time that i have seen my car do that. is this something that i should be worried about? what could it be and why did it happen?

judging from your previous post of your car being tuned for 93 octane while running 91 octane you DEFINITELY SHOULD NOT be getting on full throttle or even anywhere near boost. See my response in one of your two re-tune threads and keep it below 3k-4k rpm until you have a proper custom tune

oh wow! thank you so much. i had no idea. i will definitley do that. i have been getting on the car pretty hard on and off for the last week! (full boost more times than i could even begin to count) do you think that by me doing so i could have caused any ir-reversable damage? like i said earlier, the car "seems" to be running fine.

when i take my car to get tuned, shouldnt the tuner be able to listen to the engine and know if it sounds and runs the way it should?
