Re: Vishnu Stage 1

1. No specific problems related to the 2004 ECU. Catless downpipes will cause a CEL, however, Vishnu Stage I exhaust has a catalytic converter.

2. Our price for Stage I install is $460. Most of that is for the uppipe install, the rest is very straightforward. Other shops' quoted price will vary as they may have different hourly rates for labor.

3. You can delete the pulley kit if you aren't comfortable putting it on.

4. Typically ECUs arrive here, get reflashed the same day, and go out on overnight delivery either the same day or the next day.

5. I personally believe that $2300 or so is worth it for 50-55 wheel horsepower, excellent drivability, and factory reliability. Some will agree, some will not.

6. Why not get the kit AND some nifty vinyl? I know a guy who can get you 100-150 wheel hp worth of stickers for cheap.

I'm running an older version of the Vishnu Stage 1 (still got the UniChip).

My A/C seems to be a tad warm on hot days when I stop and idle, but one I'm under way it's fine.

I used to get 0420 CEL's until I got a resistor for my EGT sensor, now it's fine. I still get false mis-fire CELs when WOT over 5000 rpms due to the UniChip. An XEDE is on my X-Mas list.

Isn't the EMI chip supposed to fix that?
That was the rumor... but it didn't fix mine. Seems to help with the hesitation a bit. Perhaps my CEL is because of the under-drive pulley + UniChip... If I take the UniChip and boost controller off, I can rev all day long w/o getting a CEL.

3. I am very skeptical about pulley kits. Anyone have the pulley kit and do they recommend it being installed? I have this fear of warm AC and battery problems. For me 3-7 hp does not mean much if I have warm AC. I might have the kit installed without them. And yes, I read the posts on pulley kits on the site. But, no one on the thread actually had them on their car.
I've had the Vishnu Power Pulley kit on my car for about nine months and haven't experienced any problems or noticed any differences with accessories or air-conditioning at idle. No problems with charging system or battery. Even stock, the headlights would dim slightly if I was using A/C, signals, and brake lamps at the same time, sitting at a light.

I've heard some grumbles from people that ran other pulleys that may have had an extreme underdrive ratio, plus some indicated that they were running high-boogie aftermarket sound systems in their cars.

I say that if you're getting Stage One anyway, go for the pulley (and belt).

pulleys

I live in Mississippi and have Vishnu's crank pulley. No appreciable loss in AC, even during our extreme summer.

I'm running the Vishnu U/D pulley kit. Never had any issues with the AC that I didn't have stock (was in Hawaii). Go ahead and get it. You may want to search for threads about Crank Position Sensor (CPS) and UD pulleys. I'd search for you, but I'm on dial up.

Short story- Cobb has seen cars with UD pulleys have problems due to the CPS losing track. You can look it up, or give the guys at Cobb a call and have them explain it to you. I've been running my UD pulley for over a year without a problem.

edit: I'm running a Vishnu Stage 1 (except mine is tuned by Cobb) and I did my whole setup (BPM Turboback, Hoses, UD pulley, sparkplugs, uppipe) for ~$1700 installed. You can find parts for cheaper, but Vishnu stuff is good and the setup is WELL researched.

Getting installation done for beer money is one of the great benefits of hanging out with your fellow subbie enthusiasts, too.
