To TT or not to TT
I'm still debate wether or not to get a TurboTimer....I keep reading posts (and other docs) that say the WRX doesn't need cool down time for the turbo because it's cooled by the engine coolant....
So is a TT extra insurance, or pretty useless??

I'm not sure if the "cooled-by-engine-coolant" is true or not. But here are some extra advantages about having my TT:
1. I live in an apartment. It's nice to have my car started and warm up while I can get back in my home for some extra few things to do. The TT can wait up to 10 minutes.
2. For fast grocery shopping and etc. I don't have to shut down the car. I bet it can never be a good thing to stop and start the engine too often, right? There are just too many occassions like this: buying coffee, get a lunch box to go, the list goes on and on unless yours is not a daily car.
Oh, for your security concern, the TT will shut down the car immediately if hand brake is released without the key being in the hole. So you don't have to worry about people breaking into the car and drive away while it's cooling down.

No matter what people say about the evap stuff... theres still hot oil in your turbo when you shut the engine off. If the issue is how fast the oil cools and how much its flowing while cooling... i don't understand why the evap system is such a cure.

Well the point is that Subaru designed the cooling system to be adequete for daily driving and commuting. If there was a need for a turbo timer it would have been built in or recommended... niether of which are the case.
Now there are many benefits to having a turbo timer especially if you do track days, have modified the car quite a bit and run higher boost levels, etc. But for the most part if your just doing bolt on's with out touching the turbo, your pretty safe not to get one.
But for the record I have an HKS TT.
Thanks for the input....
I do plan on getting a TT (even if just for the leaving-the-car-running benefit), but since I don't have any mods and it's not vital, I'll wait until I have the extra cash (or until I do too many mods
)
