stock timing questions

The knock sensor in the subaru is a very integral part of the ignition system. The OEM ECU is one of the most sophisticated to date and uses fairly complex learning algorithms to adjust the timing curve. Of course these algorithms mainly rely on the knock sensor for feedback.

As far as the timing curve... it very much depends on the octane of the gas you have been running, recent weather, and how hard you've driven your car. Basically it all boils down to weather your ECU has encountered knock in the past.
Generally you'll see approx 9-11* on spoolup, rising slowly untill about 5500-6000RPM where it starts to rise quickly in anticipation of quickly tapering boost. You'll see approx 25-29* at redline.
Again, this all depends on how much knock your ECU has encountered previously.
