Silencer remocal questions?

I got a piece of rubber pipe from the home depot...it's bent 90 degrees and had two big ends, but the middle section was 3.5 inches. It was a perfect fit. I just hacked off one of the big ends and shoved it through the hole in the fender. I also bought the block off plate for the hole left from the snorkus. Looks great and sounds awesome. Seems like the boost drop off is not as bad as it used to be, but could just be me...

You can get the plug from most any on line place that sells OEM stuff or just order it from your dealer.

I never bothered to asked why, because I did not plan on changing mines anyway. They said the K&N drop in filter with stock air box and the silencer mod was ok.
Any thoughts?

I removed the snorkus last weekend on my 03 WRX, but was curious about replacement air filters. I've read some bad things about the K&N and oil disrupting the MAF. Does anybody recommend other filters, or is the stock paper filter the best route?

I've been using K&N panel filters in my Scoobies for years w/ no problems. In my Forester I went and got a "Green Filter" to give that a try. I really think it's better made than the K&N. I think if you don't go crazy over oiling them you will be OK. Here are some pics and info:
