Second OEM ECU?
I'm not sure if this has been covered previously ( I did a search and nothing showed up). But here goes.
Would an ECU out of a wrecked WRX of the same year, tranny, etc. work in another WRX. I realize that you need a ECU from a similar car so please do not try to explain all this to me.
The reason I ask is because this would be the simplest way to circumvent the dealer noticing a reflashed ECU. You could just switch out the ECU when you went in for service.
I'm not sure if there is a way for the dealer to tell the difference between two stock ECU's. I'm sure they would have some sort of number encoded into the software, but an oem code may not cause much concern to a dealer mechanic.
This would also solve the problem of not wanting the dealership mechanics to drive the car because they would notice the extra power.
If this has already been discussed let me know and point me in the direction of the thread. I don't want to rehash old issues.
Thanks,
Jeremy

Any computer from any WRX should work AFAIK. If you are worried about them pulling the serial, and I would assume you are reflashing, then you could get the second computer reflashed that way it will be reflashed for your car, and the original computer would also be set for your car. It should be fine either way though.

Kreed--did you get the ECU from a wrecked WRX or did you just buy a new one?
If you bought a new one, how much did it cost?
I'm one of the only people in my area with a WRX so finding a wrecked WRX is almost impossible.
If anyone out there has any ideas about where to find a used ECU, please reply to this thread.
BTW, I'm in Western PA, about an hour north of Pittsburgh.
Thanks everybody
