safc 2 tuning/break in suggestions
ok, i have my engine back together, and now i am looking at tuning my car. what i need is advice on a basic fuel map to start from, then i can improve on it as i drive the car.
i am running a 93 subaru legacy with the standard 2.2l engine. my pistons are ceramic coated 11-1 compression ratio. my heads are ported and polished, with a reground cam for torque. i have also had my flywheel lightened. also running a walbro 255lph fuel pump, safc II, and autometer a/f gague. for now i am running my STOCK injectors...
i need help with:
!. how much should i enrich fuel over stock < i was thinking 10-
20 percent to start>
2. should i do anything different as far as breaking in the engine
is concerned?
i am kind of worried about tuning the car and breaking it in at the same time, but it has to be done. thanks for any advice, i really need help here guys!

Try using STP oil additive. It has Zinc in it which is good for the break in phase. We dyno all of our fresh motors with 20/50 weight oil and the additive and they all run well. We usually let them run on the dyno for an hour or so then do pulls then let it run some more. AFter that, the engine is ready to go in the car and we NEVER have any problems, even on the street cars that people beat right from the very beginning. Hope that helped.
You can't really tune without either an EGT or a wideband O2 setup. Both would be ideal, but would get expensive
Also how do you know you should richen it up? What if you car is designed to run rich from the factory? Hence the reason for the correct gauges.

I would suggest doing some quick math and find out how much fuel you will need for the given power you are going to make. You know what the stock flow is so you can figure out how much more (%) you will need over stock to get enough fuel. Remember that you cannot raise the fuel pressure a whole lot on stock injectors. Anything over 80% duty cycle will wear down the injectors a lot faster and cause problems with them later on.
Be careful to make sure you have enough fuel, especially since the timing has not been retarded either.

egt gague
i think for now i am going to order the autometer egt. this way it will match my autometer a/f meter, and i will be able to tune based off of exaust gas temperature and narrow band a/f gague. the only thing i am not sure of is where do you connect the egt gague? do you have to weld a bung into the exaust header? this is something that would prove a bit difficult for me.
also, stock my engine put out about 135 hp (if i remember correctlly) and i am hoping for about 200-220 hp when i am finished. this would be a hp increase of about 30-40 percent, which i doubt stock injectors can handle. the problem i have been having is locating aftermarket injectors. i know that jdm silvia injectors fit my fuel rails, but i havnt been able to find a set for sale recently. any ideas?
thanks,
