Resetting the ecu...

Ive heard its a good idea to do that everytime you add a performance mod to your sooby, but will that affect the gas mileage settings of your car?

Ive just put a couple mods on my car, but havent resetted the ecu (via unplugging battery and pumping the brakes a couple times) ever since. is it necessary?

thanks

What mods and what "gas mileage settings" are you referring to?

It's a good idea to reset the ECU whenever you've made any mods, with the exception of just having gotten an ECU reflash or map reflash via Cobb Tuning AccessPORT device.

Resetting the ECU won't do anything that can't be relearned over a period of time, taking into account the newest mods. It's optional, of course, and if you are happy with the way your car is performing with those mods and you aren't getting a CEL, then skip the reset if you want. For those extensive exhaust mods (headers and turbo back exhaust), I would consider getting a Cobb AccessPORT for some nice additional gains over just a simple ECU reset and re-learning.

before i didnt beleive in reseting the ecu, i just thought it would ajust over time. after i installed a stock downpipe when previously running catless, the car ran real crappy. throttle response was crappy, the car would sorta stutter during acceleration, and when trying to boost it would stutter. after i reset the ecu it was fixed. it wasnt like huge noticeable crappiness, but the car feels like it lost lots of power. i know the cats would make it more restrictive but it felt slower than if should have been. i didnt notice my gas milage tho.
