Who said they're the same? One will lead to the other. If you boost creep up above 17.5psi (I believe) for at least a couple of seconds you'll throw a code and experience fuel cut.

Any catless turboback exhaust can have boost creep. The size and style of a catless downpipe doens't matter. Who'd you hear that from??

Read the last review. '03 WRX. I've never heard of any half legit retailer warning about having a 2.5L engine.

Any links?

In my limited experience tuning Subarus, I have seen "boost creep" manifest itself in the following ways:

1. True Boost Creep.
A slow & steady climb of manifold pressure related directly to engine rpm and is not corrected with recalibrating the ecm. This results in a hp curve that looks like a 45 degree ramp.
The #1 cause that I have seen is due to the restrictor pill being removed/ wrong size restrictor pill. In this case, porting the turbine housing waste gate will not help.

2. "Boost Creep."
Manifold pressure increases normally, then rapidly oscillates by ~5psi. I have seen this exclusively on vf34 turbos. Not saying that all 34s do this, just that all cases that I have dealt with have been 34s. All cases have been corrected with light wastegate porting.

Now on to overboost fuel cut.

The classic example of OBFC is experienced by the driver after removing the factory cat section of the exhaust and not recalibrating the ECM.

Removing the cats allows the velocity of the exhaust gas flow to change quicker than with cats
This allows the turbo to change velocity/pressure faster then the ECM was programmed for.

Since the ecm can't effectively control boost, the rate at which manifold pressure increases to the point that the ecm's max boost trigger is reached.

wrxisthebest,

If this is actually Keegan's old car, I tuned it a couple years ago using Ecutek. This is the car that caused all the crazy S-Squared drama back in the day. Anyway, the car had a full catless TBE, UP, and 3-port solenoid at the time I tuned it. If it doesn't have the TBE on now and is still running on the same tune, I would HIGHLY recommend not driving it hard. A tune that's done for a full TBE car is NOT going to run propperly with a stock exhaust!

You also shouldn't be hitting 19psi in 5th gear either way.

How do you know that your stock downpipe is gutted? Sounds like it had a full TBE then put a stock dp on to pass emissions?

well... all the catted cars i know dont smell a whole lot when they hit the gas infront of u!

but when a catless car hits the gas.. damm that **** smells.. its cause there are no cats to take the unburnt gas and instead it just gets put out the tailpipe and it smells alot!
