O.E.M E.G.T/ and Tuners?
Im wondering if folks like Vishnu, Cobb, TurboX could find a way to RETAIN your O.E.M E.G.T to keep the built in saftey factor that the E.C.U uses it for in the first place?
You wouldnt NEED a aftermarket E.G.T as you wouldnt NEED to worry about it since the E.C.U would save your **** from meltdown!
Cobb tuning advises to KEEP your O.E.M E.G.T !!
Maybe he DOES use it to keep us on the "safe side" when he does the reflash, If so,.........I Salute him bigtime for his forethought!!!!

When installing an EGT gauge is there any way to tap into the stock probe to get the same readings as the ECU? I just got my WRX in nov last year and I put a AEM CAI on right away as it seems like the first thing to do to a car. That was before I started reading on here and now I am reading all this stuff on how they lean out the engine and I am getting worried. I thought if I add an EGT I could monitor that a little more to make sure I'm okay but if I could tap into the existing probe it would make life less expensive and then i'd have the same info as the computer... Any advice?

The stock probe is too slow to respond to anything worthwhile and is more of an idiot light if anything.
I could care less if I had a resistor in place of my OE EGT probe(I dont btw) but if my uppipe didn't have a provision for the EGT, I wouldn't fret at all.
Sure Cobb recommends that you keep the EGT in place. But other tuners dont. Each has their own thoughts on it's usefulness, and Cobb just happens to like it. I'd take it with a grain of salt...
