hey everyone,
a long time ago (about a year or two ago)i downloaded the latest windows based software for the link from a very nice i-speed website. i have since tried, off and on, through 3 different laptops, to connect with the link ecu in my car with no luck. the latest laptop (like all the others) has no serial port, so i got a printer to serial adapter from radio shack and tried once again to connect to the link, but to no avail.
There appears to be 4 different ports i can try (if i remember they're called com1, com2, com3 and com4). ports 1,2 and 4 give me a "cant find the link message" and a "maybe the port is busy" message, while port 3 just says it cant find the link.
if this helps, my link was installed a while back when rallispec did an STI ver V conversion into my OBS aroiund late 2000. its a possum borne link i believe. they have tuned my ecu since, but always with a handheld unit, and i would relaly love to slowly learn how to tune my link using my laptop.
the weather here is real nice and i would love to get this non communitive problem licked once and for all. any help would be sooo appreciated!
is thre any "trick" to getting it hooked up? is the adaptor just a poor solution? does the engine have to be on/off, etc? will Bill marry Wendy even though she's carrying the samurai's baby?... tune in next week for how the turbo spools...
actually, ignore that last silly part :P

not a clue in the context, but it could be that the program doesn't recognize the printer port, I see two options which might solve this. getting a sub to serial adapter (they r more similar) or, depending on ur laptop, get a station thing which would have a real serial port. You could also try getting a usb cable and new software but I doubt you could.
Just a note, I'm looking at the problem from a totally computer point of view and going from experience with scanners, joysticks, and printers rather than things like a boost control. GL

cool thanx kravdra.
i think what i indeed need is a viewpoint from a computer type, as my problems are not fuel vs. air, but that i can't seem to connect to my laptop at all!
i've actually tried a laptop with a docking station that has a serial port, but couldn't connect either. could it be my very connection cable? where would i be able to procure a new one? anyone know? i'm still pretty sure i'm connecting it to the right place on the link ecu. so frustrating....

the only thing I can think of is contacting whoever made it or rallispec and seeing if you could get a new one. With lack of knowledge as to how it connects to the link, I can't offer much more advice. If its serial on both sides, you could pick it up in a normal comp store, or if its another standard connector, however if its at all custom, I have no clue. I'd try with someone else's computer, find someone else with a laptop, install the software and see if u can connect, or bring your desktop out. IT could be a compatibility issue of windows also (if the program was made for 98 and ur running xp, or the other way around (or any other windows software, although, newer usually is compatible with older, and since you just downloaded it, that would seem wierd. Sorry I can't be more help. anyone else? GL

First off, which Link are you trying to connect too. Some of the older model Links you CANNOT connect to via the software and can only use the Tuning Module.
E-mail me if you like.
