Need help with installation of Dastek EM!!

I'm trying to find a way to install this Dastek piggyback em system that came with the car when I bought it. The guy didn't include instructions with it and after the first time I just plugged it in, a week later it threw a check engine light. There is some other little 18 pin chip that is separate. I have no clue what that is for. Any help is much appreciated!!!

What model and year car are you in?
Was the chip tuned to the car before you bought ?
Was it hard wired or does it have a loom?
What mods are on your car?

You also have to wonder why it wasn't hooked up when you bought the car.

I'm in an '02 wrx sedan. I can only guess it was tuned, but can't say for sure! The previous owner said he took it off because it felt like too much power to him, but come on! We're talking a stock WRX then! I don't think it's going to do anything that significant to make you want to take off the car. The piggyback is just simply plug & play. It's already got it's own wires I just hook up to the ECU and from ECU into it. The only hp mods are an underdrive pulley and a short ram air intake. I've got others, but their more performance based, nothing I would imagine to cause issues to ECU. I didn't have the air intake though when I originally put in on! I also just bought a header system (uninstalled), but didn't know if that in itself is going to require tuning to the map as well. I know it does from turbo back, but unsure and would rather know before I do something I regret! I love this car too much!

You have no idea what was programed into that Dastech. Is there anyone in your area who can upload the map in the chip and see what's in there? I live in santa barbara, CA. The A/F ratios, boost , and timing can be altered in multiple ways. If you can get a hold of a Delta Dash you can at least see how the car is responding to the chip.
You can't just plug it in and hope for the best. It's your car we are talking about here. I'm sorry but one pull at WOT could do alot of damage to your engine if the chip is not right for your car.
Best of Luck,
Dave

Honestly to my knowledge the only thing I can say is I would think the guy that bought it made sure that everything was mapped right? Question, wouldn't they program it before you get it. I don't have the thing installed right now, but have tried calling the # listed on the actual chip and it's a California #. So the previous owner had to have it shipped to him. I live in the midwest. Not so close to Cali. I don't know if there's anyone around here that messes with them. Don't even know where to begin to look. I assume a Delta Dash is someone who modifies these chips? I totally agree, I don't want to do any damage to the car that can be helped. Do you also think I should get it tuned when I put my header on? Will that affect the A/F ratio since it makes the turbo spool quicker? Thanks for all your help! I've also seen paperwork that shows a subzero kit? I don't have the slightest in what this does. Prev owner didn't really explain to me! I don't think he knew much about the car or didn't care to get into it. I'm trying to learn everything I can about it so I know what's what on this car and what not to do!

Call Vishnu Performance at (925) 648-7863. They are in CA and likely the tuning shop (registered i-Club vendor, also) that mapped that Unichip. They have a Stage SubZero that consisted of a Unichip, catless uppipe, bleed restrictor, and EMI Adapter to avoid part-throttle full boost conditions. You may not have the complete kit on your car since there is no reason why the previous owner did not have the Unichip wired in. A Unichip mapped to these mods is a very mild tune and will not support other exhaust mods. It will likely run lean with a full turboback.

Vishnu Performance may still be able to help you out although like most other tuners they've long since moved away from the original Unichip for more robust forms of engine management.

Well I know for sure that it has the chip, catless uppipe, and the EMI adapter from paperwork he has from Vishnu. I'm not sure on the bleed restrictor, but would assume it came with it. Do you think it would run lean with only headers installed? Turbo back exhaust won't be for a while. I will try calling and see if they can do anything with it for tuning so I can put on the headers I just bought! Thanks for the help. Much appreciated!
