MBC Help !~ Please !~
Hello Y'all,
I have a 2004 STI. I need some assistance on installing a HKS MBC. Can someone please look at the attachment and give me some instruction on how to connect the MBC. I thought I could've done it by the instructions that came with the MBC but ... the factory boost controller is throwing me off. Please help.
THank you in advance.

If you don't understand this LMK because it is pretty Basic as it gets. the Stock boost seleniod w/ the 2 hose outlets should be taped up so no dust gets inside. and make sure you keep the seleniod pluged in to the harness so you don't get a CEL. And if you have anymore Q's installing anything check the site i gave you out enjoy and i hope you have a boost gauge first before you perform this mod.

Mario,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I kept your suggestion in mind when I drew up another Diagram for the MBC Connection. Can you or anyone else confirm for me what I drew up is the correct connection for a 2004 STI? I'm drawing up these diagrams so Newbie's like me can gain and retain some knowledge. BTW, I also followed the directions from the link you gave me.

Can you post a link to the MBC that you bought? The diagram you show in your second post is correct for a BALL VALVE mbc. if it's a bleed valve mbc you'll need to do it differently.

Russb,
Thank you for your reply. I don't think it's bleeder type. Here's a link that will show you what I bought. I didn't get it from them, but It's the same thing. It's a Universal VBC for and Internal Wastegate.

Please let me know if there is anything different that I need to do.
Thank you in advance.

I will go home tonight and scan the instruction so I can post them here. I do recall what It said I needed to do to for the install: Keep in mind that these instructions are for a Universal VBC so it wasn't specific to the WRX:
1. "T" the vacuum hose from the Wastegate Actuator and Turbo (on the instructions it had a diagram it showed one straight hose from the WG to the Turbo)
2. Prior to connecting the hose from the turbo to the "T" fitting, insert a Orifice into the line and then connect it to the "T" fitting.
The orifice looks like a plug for the line but it had a small hole to allow a little air to pass, very small hole though.
3. After you connect the hose from the WG to the "T" and Turbo to the "T" (with orifice in it) run a hose from the remainder connection to the MBC.
4. Then run another hose from the MBC to "suction" source. I'm assuming that is another vacuum.
5. You're done.
Here is my confusion:
1. There already is an existing T in the Hose from the WG to turbo that goes to the stock Boost Controller Solenoid
2. Why ALMOST plug the hose with an Orifice from the "T" Fitting to the Turbo?
3. Is it okay to completely bypass the stock Boost Controller Solenoid and leave it plugged to avoid a CEL?
4. If I bypass the Stock Boost Controller, can I use the Intake as a "suction" Source for the MBC like the stock one does ? ?
Any advice would be most appreciated.
Thank you Mario and Russ.

Wunder,
I can not believe how complicated this thing is?!?!
I donot have any experience working w/ a VBC. Do you have a manual boost contoller? or do you just have a t-fitting and some hoses??LMK

yeah, that last diagram looks like how to do it. it's a bleeder valve that you have. The wrx ALREADY has a T in place, and it also has an orifice in the hose from the turbo to the T. If you have some spare hose and stuff, you might want to try the factory T and orifice and then try the HKS stuff to see what works best, but I'm sure the stock WRX orifice is sized for the stock turbo. Not sure how MBC's work on 04's or STI's though, you might want to do a search on here.

Gentlemen, Thank you for your help.
I didn't know there was difference between and VBC and MBC, I thought it was the same thing Mario. Sorry if I confused you.
RussB, I will try your suggestion with both hoses.
I'm assuming it's okay to bypass the Stock Boost Controller then.
I'll post my follow up for y'all after I install it.
Thanks.

*UPDATE*
Hello Y'all,
As I said I was going to install and update.
It works! Thanks guys for your tips. I just followed my last diagram and bypassed the original Boost Solenoid. I mounted in the cockpit where the ashtray is supposed to be and it looks and works great! I'm pulling a consistant 16 psi and don't have the urge to go any higher than that.
Once again, thanks guys!

Word of caution, be careful with that thing. I have an 04 WRX and just took my MBC off last night due to problems I was having. I only saw a max of 16 psi, but it was surging and hesitating and bucking sometimes. Put it back to stock and everything was fine, plus it felt faster. I felt like the ECU was constatnly pulling timing. I am more comfortable running my car without it.
