Loss of Power on Hard cornering ???
HELP......
This weekend I was at Pacific Raceways in Kent, WA. doing a lapping day. On a couple different corners I would loose power for about 2 seconds then it would suddenly come back on. I had a half tank of gas and was only at 3000-3500 rpm's. It felt just like when you run out of gas and the car lerks foward (compression stopping) then lerks back when gas is flowing again. I was wondering if this had happened to anyone else or if anyone had any suggestions as to the cause.
I am thinking: dirty fuel filter, faulty fuel pump, or something in the engine computer.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
Tom

its fuel starvation, very common to occur during high g loads, like cornering. it happened a lot in my bimmer, have yet to occur in my new wrx. its not the best thing for the car, as there is a moment when the car runs very lean, so just try to keep the tank topped up as much as possible during your track days.

Even at half a tank you think it would be starved ? I filled the tank right before going to the track. It's never happened before and I've been on the track w/ a quater tank.
I'm going to try and reproduce the problem tomorrow night, I'll be sure to have less gas in the tank.
Thanks for the input !

Subarus are famous for suffering from fuel starvation due to fuel slosh. That's why the JDM STi has a special baffle around the fuel pickup in the tank.

Does the WRX have one or two fuel pumps, if its one, does anyone know where it is in the tank ? Front or rear ?
I have yet to reproduce the problem on the street. Haven't found a place as safe as the track to go from 90mph to 20 then do a sharp right then a left.
Thanks,

I talked to local girl at the Subaru dealer who does rally racing, she said it happens to her as well when at half a tank or less of gas. Fuel starvation. I don't understand why it never happened before.
So now inbetween my tack sessions I'll have to make trip to the gas station. Bummer.

Well, it happened again this weekend at the track, however, this time it happened on the stright away. I had the pedal to the floor, at a variety pf RMP's and it felt like fuel was getting to the engine in spurts or the turbo was not spooling, but I am guessing.
Any ideas ?
It didn't start to happen until after the car was hot, 10-15 laps of hard driving. Thats why I'm leaning towards something w/ the turbo......once it gets hot something is failing. Once the car cooled down the problem did NOT happen again.

That actually sounds like boost cut. What is your complete setup? Sever knock can caused pulled timing as well, which feels like fuel cut sort of.

The engine is completely stock, only upgrades have been to the suspension. When it happened this last Saturday it was not as dramatic as the first time. Loss of power was shorter, more like a sputter. I have an appointment w/ the dealer for tomorrow. But I don't think they will be able to reproduce the problem since it only happened once the car got hot.
If it's the clutch or timing wouldn't it happen all the time ? This only happened when the car got hot.
thanks for the input.

OK the dealer said my car is fine, it's the "YAL limiter" . If the car feels too much g forces in a turn it cuts fuel. Sounds like traction control which I thought the WRX does NOT have.
Has anyone heard of this YAL limiter ?
It happened again this weekend at Pacific raceways. I did a ECU reset, thinking if I reset it then drove it on track I would teach it this is how I drive all the time.
Didn't work. Same problem after 7-8 laps. Loss of power on corners, very brief loss but very noticeable.
Getting frustrated.
