High alt. and lag
I have an '03 mt all stock with almost 4k miles. I live at about 8000 ft. I'm really enjoying the car but the lag is huge - I get nervous pulling out into traffic. Its not so bad at sea level and once the turbo kicks in it runs great.
I really don't want to make too many mods but if I could do something with the boost or the chip which would be OK with the warrranty I'd be all over it

Well being at that altitude, you kinda are out of luck. My 15psi at sea level is only about 11-12psi at your altitude. No matter how you look at it, your boost levels will be less when the air is thinner. But do not assume that you can just up the boost as you will make the turbo over work itself more then likely and perhaps it will prematurely die. If you were to push 15psi at that altitude, you would be at 18-19psi at sea level and would be way past the turbo's efficiency level.
With that said, I would give www.dyno-comp.com a call and see what Clark can do for you. Or even www.cobbtuning.com and see what they have as well. Their ECU reflashes may be just the ticket.

Thanks for the response - it took me awhile acknowledge - I've been looking into ECU reflashes, etc.
I don't think I'm going to be in Arizona any time soon so I think my best bet is going to be the reflash. From what they say and what I'm reading here on the site I should be OK warranty wise.
I saw some posts about some dealers being able to do a reflash.
I feel like I'm going to be better off with the Cobb Tuning reflash and not say anything about it t the dealer - especially if they'll work with me with the altitude effects.
Has anyone out there had any luck working with their dealer on a reflash?

Your from: box since the Bay area - did you live in Tahoe before? That would be a fun place to drive a Wrx
Since I wrote that post my cars performance has improved quite a bit without me doing anything - I'm wondering if I didn't get some bad gas. I've been buying quite a bit of gas at a generic type station - gas is soooo expensive where I'm at. I figured at this altitude it might not make that much difference - maybe it does
I'm still intrigued by the reflash - I think I might wait 'til they come out with the access port so I can do it myself - that sounds like it might be a great product if they pull it off
