fuel/ignition

I just bought a 05 wrx, im starting to look into and figure out what my plan as far as modifications go. i've been reading alot into ecu tuning and seen alot of the plug in (cobb) reflashing but am not sure i want to go there. I'm curious if anyone has, or if its possible and if its worth it to retune your fuel and ignition maps to run normal 87 octane safely and properly. I know everyone sees the gas prices and how high they are going and if your from canada you'll know that your paying more than our american neighbours. since i dont plan to do alot more than simple exhaust and intake mods and just use my wrx as a daily driver, i see the advantage of retuning for 87 octane, in the long run it will save alot of money. any opinions, have you seen anyone do something of this type? i kno lots have tuned for 91 95 and 100 octane and what not so i think it should be possible. dont come on and tell me its stupid unless you have a justifiable reason why.
