ecu removal issue

Is it almost garaunteed that the ecu will fry or corrupt if you take it out without remembering to disconnect the battery first? I saw no sparks or smoke but haven't tried using it yet.

No you will not fry anything.

Car Info: 2003 WRX 5-Spd,short throw, premium sound, security, yellow... stock... MINE!!

Does the ECU even get power with the car off? I have no idea and am curious, what is it actually doing if the car isn't running?

Yes the ECU gets "stay alive"power while the car is off. Its just for its memory.

when i did the utec install i did not take off the neg of the battery.

you dont need to take it off if you are sure you wont be
touching the contacts and shocking yourself..but the memory
power is very low current.
