How true is that statement up there??? can't you just run up/dp and then add a Cobb then you dont need the tune right? or can you do without the cobb and the tune?

That would depend on how hard your gonna drive it. If you want to drive it hard you will need a tune or else you could suffer engine damage. A re-flash will also net you decent performance gains.

I ran up/dp with a stock CBE for a while without any problems. I then added a borla hush and went for a while longer still without a tune and still without any problems. Once I got a tune the car was a **** load faster

oh yeah, I did two rally-x's with the up/dp on and a track day at laguna seca after I got the CBE but still without the tune

you dont NEED a tune.
that's BS.

but, you won't get the most out of your mods unless you get one (cobb or any other brand).

Doesn't it depend on the year of your WRX? I thought that with the 05's at least (and possibly 04's as well) the ECU would freak out and it would be dangerous to run UP/DP without a tune. Perhaps I'm mistaken, and I don't know the details, but I know I heard that before...

If you plan on driving your car hard a good tune should
be on the top of your list.No tune and engine damage could
possibly occur.

02-03 ECUs will "work".
04+ ECUs running with up/dp and no tuning will blow **** up. Go ask ipozestu, it happened to him on his 04 and ended up getting a built motor.

tuning usually runs around $200/hour. You should expect 1 to 2 hours of tuning for small bolt ons (up pipe, dp, cat back, intake, etc).

and btw, i wouldnt run catless w/o tuning. it will cause your car to overboost (boost creep) and will probably have leaner afr's because your ecu is set for stock boost.

i'd go with the cobb ap first. you'll get some good gains and later down the road your up/dp mods will have some insurance for your motor.
