I actually asked cobb this back when I only had an HKS downpipe and they told me it's fine but boost and power will be a little on the lower side.
But definately, if you have a downpipe, go for stage 2

I got ya... I read a ton of stuff on cobb's site, and wrxforums.. but I didn't see anything relating to performance with just having a downpipe. I know they recommend the stage 2 map if you have a downpipe, but I was mostly curious about what kind of loss is associated with not having the full turboback. For instance, with a full turboback and stage2, you should be around 285hp/285ft-lbs on 93 octane. But if I only had a downpipe and stage2... I would expect some loss from those numbers, but I am wondering how much. Would I get roughly 275hp/275ft-lbs? Less? More?
Thanks for the info.

rock, may be worth a call, not that the boys at cobb aren't a little busy now. i think there are alot of variables...ie stock up pipe, gutted up pipe and a hundred or so after-turbo exhaust combinations. i've heard that the 3rd cat is gonna lose you around 5 to 10hp...so your numbers are probably accurate. my ride's a daily driver so i went stromung dp, stock cat/mid pipes and prodrive axleback. gutted the up pipe so that if there's a visual component to emissions in addition to obdII, it will look like i have 2 cats. i suspect that if you're in the remote neighborhood of the stock map you'll be quite happy! and now that the accessports' out there very likely will be a few maps from reputable sources for guys like us!
Thanks oxtox. My car is completely stock right now, and the accessPORT is the first thing I am getting. I'll probably post a question on WRX forums to see what they have to say. I don't want to call and bother them while they could otherwise be boxing and shipping acessPORTS.
I was looking at Cobb's downpipe with the highflow cat. I want to be as legal as possible... I am in the Philly area also, and don't want to get boned come emissions time.
