CEL Flash

Hi, I have a 2002 4EAT WRX Sedan with a Utec Stage 1, Unifilter short ram intake, Xccleration up-pipe with cat, Greddy Evo cat back, GFB blow off valve, boost gauge and Boost, EGT and A\F gauge oh and a Knock link. I think thats it. Anyway recently on the highway sometimes if I really give it the gas I get a check engine light, it just flashes once or twice. I have 15500 miles on the car. Are these events recorded? I don't have a laptop to hook the UTEC up to, but this may be an option. I have talked with others on the group about overboosting in Overdrive on the highway, but I don't think these were high boost conditions. Any ideas? Thanks.

The CEL flashing is the UTEC indicating that you have a knock event. The UTEC won't record these internally, but I'd definately advise hooking up a laptop and doing some datalogging to find out where the knock is occuring.

Thanks, I kind of figured that since my knock sensor went up a few lights...just into the green. It seems to happen when its really cold. I'll have it looked at soon. Thanks.

cold air is more dense, thus you'll have a greater amount of air in-cylinder, which will lean out the a/f ratio, causing knock where you might otherwise not see any.

ahh the joys of EFI tuning.

Yes and it seems this only happened in the last month here in RI with the arctic temps. I mean, due to the over boost in over drive situation that seems to occur with TXS stage maps on 4EATs I've seen .11 MPa with no CEL flashes. Only in this crazy weather. My car was like dead this morning, steering was all stiff, pedals were stiff, even the directional lever. Can't wait til its warm again. I'm thinking of finishing the turbo back with a downpipe and midpipe and getting the stage 2 map. Thanks for the help and if anyone needs feedback on 2002 4EATs I can provide it. how many of those did they make anyway....the sedans? Thanks again.
