A/C spray sound?

Do any of you guys experience a loud patterned spray sound when you turn on the a/c? I own a 2005 sedan and I hear this aggressive spray sound in the cab that comes on from the engine. I decided to keep the car running with the a/c and pop the hood to see where the sound was coming from, and I found that a fan near the alternator, (probably the a/c fan, I don't know a lot about cars) stops spinning after a period of time and that spray sound creates a kind of boost for the fan to start up again. Is this normal? I feel like there may be a fault somewhere..

that is the a/c compressor fan kicking on when the a/c is turned on. It is normal, but you should check to make sure you have the proper amount of freon in the car.

How do I know if I have the proper amount of freon?
