Boost and Rev questions?

I just purchased a used 02 WRX, 30k. I bought it from a used car dealer and they couldn't tell me what all had been done to it, as far as aftermarket goes. Anyways, it has a boost gauge in psi and when I punch it goes to 17 then settles at 16, what is the true boost and is this outside of the safe boundary on a basically stock car. I know the car has headers and maybe some other exhaust features but its not loud at all so I wouldn't assume that there is a lot done to the exhaust.
One more question, do WRX's have a stock rev limiter and if so is it at red line?

first off congrats on buying an excellent car.

the car might have some kind of boost controller for the boost to hit 17's. stock normally hits around 13psi's.
im not too sure about the rev limiter. i have an auto.

how do you know the car has a header?

as far at the rev limit, it's set at 7200 or 7300, just past redline.

I can see what I percieve to be an aftermarket set of headers they are chrome polished, also thats the only thing the salesman knew was on the car. How safe is 17psi
