Bolt on exhaust goodies without engine management tuning?

I, like everyone else, would like to get a stand alone engine management system of my 02' WRX. Can't afford that now, but those uppies, downpipes and exhausts are so darn cheap, I have been thinking about it. Anyone know or tried those little things without tuning? I know it won't blow up anything, but are the gains worth the money without tuning? Thanks. Appreciate any help given.

yes, an up-pipe and downpipe are great mods to start off with and engine management should come after you have done all those mods.

opening up your exhaust system will give you some ~+25HP gains.

You can squeeze even more power out with some sort of engine managment.

Oh and in regards to a standalone, I hope you know what your getting into....
