AccessPORT HELP!

Well, I just bought myself a 2002-2003 Version 1 AccessPort today. Was really happy until I tried installing it. I followed all the instructions:
plugging in the clip, turn car 'ON', plug in the AP, choose a map, and all that. Everything was good until I choose a map. I used "3>stage2 91v130" because thats the appropriate map. I turned off the car and turned it back on, waited 5 seconds and pressed 'OK' it seemed like it was initializing with the ECU then all of a sudden the screen pops up and says "THIS ECU IS ALREADY IN USE WITH ANOTHER ACCESSPORT" and it terminated the process.

Now that really pissed me off! I tried choosing all the other maps stage1 91,93 stage 2,93 but none of them worked. What the HELL is wrong? From the warning it gave me, looks like the previous owner of my WRX had an AP but didn't correctly un-marry the AP. Please correct me if im wrong. I just shelled out $400 bucks for the thing and I want it to work! TIA

Looks like that's what happened. Did you buy the car from an individual? You might need to contact the original owner to get this figured out.

If you can't contact the original owner try giving Cobb a call and see if they can help you out.

Good luck.

I gave Cobb a call and they said I am probably already married to another AP. I'll have to reflash the ECU by them or someone else before I can use another AP. Just my luck!

I guess you have no way of contacting the previous owner of your car. If you could get a hold of the AP that is married to your ecu it would be an easy fix but I'm sure finding it will be easier said than done. The AP in question is pretty much useless until it's unmarried from your ecu so whoever has it would probably like to get in touch with you also.

If you have no luck locating the AP, there is a free program called ecuexplorer that should be able to get your ecu where you want it to be (not 100% sure). Try to post in your local area forum and see if anyone in your area has the program and if they do see if they are willing to help a fellow Subaru owner out.

I think testes1010 has experience with this program, PM him and see if it's even possible before you start digging.

Good luck

I believe ecuExplorer or one of the other programs offered (go to www.openecu.org) can reflash the ecu, maybe then the AP will see it as a new ecu??? You're going to need to get a serial/usb adapter to lug the ap cable from the obdII port to the usb port on a laptop (unless you can find a laptop still working that has a serial port). And yes, then the AP version 1 cable will work with ecuExplorer or another software (AP version 2's do not). HOWEVER, I'd first make sure you have a back-up plan (like a stock map to load to the ecu with ecuExplorer) rather than just throwing any old map on there to get the AP to work in case it still doesn't

Hopefully he can just find someone that already has the setup so he wont have to go spend $40 bucks on a serial adaptor. From what I've read a lot of the adaptors out there will only work for data logging but Radio shack has one that works best (not positive though).

BTW, ecuexplorer can definitely reflash the ecu but I'm not 100% sure if the AP will work after the ecuexplorer reflash or not (I'd think it would).

Did you try contacting testes1010? If he's they guy I'm thinking of that posts at stlsubaru he has a lot of experience with this program so I'd think he could give you a definite answer.

I'll send testes1010 a pm. I'm just hoping that if the ecu reflashes back to stock settings, the AP will detect it. But you mentioned that the serial adaptors may not work so yeah . might just be best to go somewhere and have my ecu professionally reflashed. =(

The radio shack adaptor should work and if it doesn't there is a chord that will definitely work that is around $80. Here's a link that discusses serial adaptors with the AP chord http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...ht=ecuexplorer
