3/16 Mod update??

I want some current advice...
I have seen good and bad reports on doing the 3/16 Mod to my 2002 WRX; but most of the info I have found came from at least 3 years ago.
Now that everyone has had time to see how this mod does long term, what is the current thinking on it?

Good idea or bad idea?

I used it for about a month and although the boost came on alittle quicker, my car started stuttering later on, probably after my ecu adjusted itself. So I took it off, but that's just my experience with it. I've heard both good and bad, too. I'm also running on a untuned catless setup in my WRX, so that might have had something to do with it.

it will bring on "boost" sooner, but that does not mean the ECU will compensate and add more fuel.

On an EVO ECU this would work, and maybe a JDM WRX ECU, but not the USDM ECU.

Ken at Vishnu put one on mine after a reflash and the car ran like crap after a while, stuttering, not making full boost. I took it off and the car ran like a scalded ape till I sold it. I don't recommend it.

Its fine to use one with a reflash as long as its tuned for it. The 3/16" connector extends the range of boost you can run with the stock solenoid. You can also do this by installing a smaller restrictor pill in one of the boost lines. I don't recommend using a 3/16" connector on a stock ECU. It will improve boost response slightly for a while but the ECU will attempt to adjust and make things worse in the end.

Thanks

Had the 3/16" mod but then read more about it and drilled out the stock coupler to 5/64". I am boosting just under 1.0 bar. So it only raised the boost not even one pound. I noticed boost coming in at about 3-500 rpms quicker. My 2 cents added
