Provides 25% more viscosity in bearings than petroleum 20W-50s. Not recommended for use in cold climates where temperatures are at or below 10 F or -12 C. The Red Line 10W30 has Great all-weather viscosity grade for gasoline engines in cars and light trucks that are driven on the street on a daily basis. GEAR OIL

Acting like a liquid grease, the viscosity characteristics of ShockProof Gear Oil allow the lubricants to resist throw-off and provide the protection of a greater film thickness with relatively light fluid viscosity, offering a "best of both worlds" balance of low drag and superior protection.

ShockProof Gear Oil products work in a variety of differential and transmissions, however, should not be used with pumps, filters, and with small lines--these fluids are designed wet sump or splash type lubrication.

The Red Line LightWeight ShockProof Gear Oil is a unique gear oil designed to lubricate racing transmissions and transaxles which see serious loads (not recommended for most syncro-type transmissions). Red Line MT90 Manual Transmission Lubricant 1QT

Red Line Oil's MTL and MT-90 are designed to provide excellent protection and improved shiftability for manual transmissions and transaxles, having cured the problem of hard shifting in thousands of transmissions with shifting troubles. How? They have the appropriate coefficient of friction for most manual transmission synchronizers (many gear oils, engine oils, and ATFs are too slippery for proper synchro engagement). And, the wide viscosity of MTL and MT-90 allow proper shifting over the entire temperature range which the transmission will experience.

The synthetic base oils used have a very high viscosity index which provides relatively constant viscosity as temperature changes. MTL is a low 70W at very low temperatures and a high 80W, nearly an 85W, at elevated temperatures, providing adequate viscosity to prevent wear and deaden gear noise. MT-90 is a thicker 75W90 version of MTL. The shear stability and oxidation stability of these products are excellent, thus the physical characteristics of Red Line MTL and MT-90 will change little with use.

Popular in Nissan, Toyota and Mazda manual transmissions and transaxles as well as other selected applications, this is a 75W90 GL-4 Gear Oil that's slightly heavier than MTL. Due to a different oil pan design, some Subaru OEM oil pans have a internal screen on the inside of the pan where the drain plug sits. If the screen exists the tip of the drain plug will be to long and will not be able to sit flush in the pan. There is no way to tell if you car has this screen aside from using a flashlight and checking the drain plug hole during an oil change.

Winter is here once again so it is a great time to make sure your car is prepped for the change in temperature. Can you guys recommend a viscosity for a vehicle spending the season in the Tahoe basin?

The transmission fluid will remain the same, but for motor oil I typically suggest running a 5W30 if temps are around freezing, or even as low as 0W30 if you are starting your car from a dead cold around 0 degree range.
