wrk tranismission final discussion
Ok, all over all the threads you hear about putting to much power through the transmission. We all have to face the fact that the WRX has a horrible transmission. You also hear about the vaunted 6sp STI transmissions. I got some questions about all this.
1) How much power can the stock WRX transmission take?
2) More specifically, I plan on running Turbo XS Stage 3 with a front mount intercooler, the biggest injectors i can find, the biggest fuel pump I can find, and an XS enginering Garret 450 hp or 500 hp turbo. Can the stock handle that and do i ned anything else?
3) Is the STI transmission the end-all be all? Or are there better transmissions out there I could buy and the only reason people on this forum love the STI one is because it's Subaru?
4) With the setup I mentioned in question 2, what do you think my quarter mile times will me? Just wondreing.

If all you care about is the 1/4, then the 4EAT can probably do you as much good. As far as power limits, I'd bet that an STi box can handle 500+. And I have no idea what kind of times you'd post, but damn if they wouldn't be insanely fast. Plan on buying a cage.

pshhh a cage, i'd get one if they didn't get in the way of head space and look stupid. I know that makes me sound like a dumb kid, but it's true. I wanna be able to go fast, doens't mean i'm gonna go fast all the time, but I also wanna look pimp.

subbaru_wrx if you are still interested on what your 1/4 mile times will be like here it is:
260HP
At the Drag Strip…
0-60mph: 4.7-4.9 seconds
¼ Mile: 13.4-13.8 seconds @ 96-98 mph
280HP-285HP
At the Drag Strip…
0-60mph: 4.5-4.7 seconds
¼ Mile: 13.2-13.6 seconds @ 98-100 mph
300HP-310HP
At the Drag Strip…
0-60mph: TBA
¼ Mile: 12.9-13.3 seconds @ 99-102
340HP-350HP
At the Drag Strip…
0-60mph: 4.2-4.4 seconds
¼ Mile: 12.4-12.7 seconds @ 105-108 mph
So if you are planning on having approximately 500+, then you should be in the mid to low 11's.
For example, Import Racer Magazine did a test on a 740HP WRX and here was it's times:
1/4 Mile: 10.73 seconds @ 135 mph
Hope this helps.
740HP WRX :) :) :)
