Why did the 93' Impreza have two different models of clutches?

Why did the 93' Impreza have two different models of clutches?
NAPA tells me that pre 6/93 Imprezas have a different clutch than post 6/93. Ehy is that? What about the flywheel? Only reason I am asking is because i would like to put on a lightweight flywheel, and can't find one. I am also looking to upgrade the clutch.
