Transmission woes

So my transmission is the main cause of all the noises I hear from my car, 2001 RS. 2 general mechanics agree its the bearings, probably the input shaft bearing, not the pilot bushing.
1 other mechanic thought maybe wheel bearing, another insisted not the wheel bearing.
So if its one or more tranny bearings, what kind of costs are we talking about? I do not have much money, how much more to have the synchros replaced?
Car has 82,000 miles on it. Should I just get a rebuilt or a low mileage unit from a recycler?

I got quoted total labor $1000, plus parts about $300.
