Transmission noise / shifter resistance

I-club motorheads,

I have an 04 WRX Wagon with a Subaru short throw shifter. I have been noticing a a thunk / clunk noise near under the shifter when I try to down-shift from 5th to 4th at around the 4000 RPM range accompanied with some mild resistance in the shifter. If I wait for the RPMs to drop to around 3000 rpms the the noise / resistance usually goes away.

Has anyone experienced this before?
Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?

Well subaru's do normally clunk for the most part. The short throw shifters on the subi's love to be notchy and difficult. I'd say try double clutching in the meantime and if the resisitance is still there than have the dealership check it out. Especially if the dealership installed that shifter it could be their fault.
