Post 06 transmission question

i have a 06 wrx 5mt

i read that droping the clutch on take off will break the tranny.

what else do i need to avoid?

i want this car to be problem free as long as possible.

what about shifting at red line or past red line?

thanks for your help.

Your 2006 Owner's Manual contains the answers to your questions.

Never shift a stock WRX past redline. In fact, the car will accelerate quicker by slightly short-shifting in the earlier WRXs because the power drops off before redline.

Just try your best to go slow on the clutch when letting it out and making it as smooth as possible.

What Galli said and to add a little. Downshift as little as possible while breaking the car in, also dont use cruise control until about 15-20k miles (more of an engine thing i think but u can never be to sure) Try double clutching when u downshift, it'll help the synchro's out.

Use your brakes to slow the car, not your engine/transmission. Brake pads are a lot cheaper to replace than a tranny or motor.

I saw a top gear episode where Tiff took an office full of people around a track and analysed their driving, the worst fault of all of the 'faster' drivers (generally young men' was that they shifted down way too early and used enging breaking far too much....that's what the brakes are for.
