Transmission or clutch noise?

I have an '05 STi, and I've noticed some drivetrain noise.

I only notice the noise when I'm slowing down. For instance, if I have the car in 1st or 2nd gear and take my foot off the gas and "coast" to slow speeds, I notice a lot of "chatter."

If I depress my clutch while this "chatter" is going on, the sound disappears. I'm pretty sure that the car has always made a lot of noise like this, but I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.

I don't want to say that it sounds like "grinding," but it sounds like really loud "meshing." Is this just the DCCD? I hear they make a lot of noise and it's perfectly normal. The sound is not a "howl."

Thanks!

I gotta JDM STi tranny and mine makes a similar noise when it's outta gear and I don't have the clutch pedal pushed in.
Tranny shop said it's made by the little bit of "play" between the gears and that's it's not a bad thing.

Thanks for the quick response, bro! I kinda figured it was normal and was just noise. I don't notice the sound when I'm accelerating either. I do notice a howl but I'm sure that's just the gears. That seems to happen with steep gearing.
