Tranny questions

I broke the 60,000 mile mark last week so now that any reliability issues will be out of pocket I figured it would be best to ask a few things.

1. With my 02 I know I got shafted with a crappy tranny. What are some signs I should be alert to so that I could know if something is going bad?

2. The only WRX I've driven is my own. Since i bought my ride (used with 38,000 miles) it's made i deep clicking sound from the rear/ undercarriage when ever I let off the gas. is it normal and what could it be?

3. What the best fluid for the tranny?
