Yes... I have the cobb package. It's more expensive than some others, but the adjustable short shifter rocks and I would buy it again. The price diff is small. It'll make your car feel like a porche... just not any faster. You'll love it.

Haven't done the mounts yet so that makes me an expert (did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night though...)
It doesn't make much sense that below 80-100 MPH that less motor/drivetrain flex is going to decrease acceleration times all that much if you're smooth...and if you're not smooth they'll allow you to wear out/break parts a bit quicker...
BUT what really satisfies people about cars (not just Subarus) are the inputs you get back from the car...so called 'haptic feedback'...
1. Steering
2. Shifting
3. Braking
4. Vibrations through the seat/steering wheel
All of these affect the other and its really the feeling of what the tires are doing that give you control...tires really are IMO the most important part of the recipie...
Suspension, bushings, stiffer mounts, short shifters all in effect change how you perceive what the tires are doing through the steering wheel, weight transfers through turns/acceleration/braking, and what your butt feels though the seat....the car in effect is an extension of yourself (feel the car...be the car grasshoppa! deep breaths inthrough the nose, out through the mouth...just like the counselor said...) and everyone has different preferences for what they like...
Sure the tranny and engine mounts may make you 1 second quicker over a 100 miles but does that really matter for everyday driving?
I think it's more of a feedback and 'feel' thing...
Yes, I'll be upgrading my mounts as well...but not for "performance," just more feedback from the car...
As far at the loss of power is concerned sure softer mounts allow the motor and tranny to torque or 'flex' along their axis a bit more which will result in relatively less instantaneous power to the wheels than would have been present with stiffer mounts...but it's probably minimal, even less if you're smooth...

It was a long time ago when the shifter just came out. I think I paid about $185 shipped for the shifter and bushings. I bought the tranny mount, motor mounts ( not installed yet) and STI injectors used for $400 shipped so I'm not sure what I paid for the tranny
mount itself.
hope this helps...

It would be interesting to see a test of the same car on a dyno before and after installing reinforcing drivetrain components.

I kinda wish that I went with a upgrade path with cobb instead of starting out with my HKS stuff, but o well I like my HKS Carbon-Ti.

The main thing the mounts do is refuse to let the transmission casing rotate relative to the car. The rotational force on the transmission remains the same; it just doesn't move as far. The total torque to the wheels is unchanged. Since you're not wasting time turning the transmission, you get power down to the wheels a smidge sooner.
I have an OBS with STi transmission and engine mounts. They definitely transfer more vibration to the car. They definitely help get the power down quicker every time I mash the gas. Once the pedal's to the floor, though, they make no difference whatsoever.

When I think about the motor / tranny mounts... I have two analogies :
1. When using a power drill... or electric screwdriver if you are drilling/screwing into something... you always want to apply firm pressure on your drill so the screw goes in straight and threads correctly. ( Stiffer mounts )
-Have you ever put a screw into a board, and held the screwdriver without much pressure? The drill will try to spin back on your hand...and if your lazy like me, sometimes the drill will want to spin in circles opposite to the way you are drilling. ( stock mounts )
2. A high power hose pushing a lot of water, if you were to lay the hose on the ground and stretch it out for 10 feet, then try to force a large amount of water through, odds are the hose will wiggle around like a snake, or to exaggerate, it'll fly around like in the movies and it'll take longer for that water to clear the hose. ( stock mounts )
Same situation, you lay out the hose and force the same amount of water through it, but this time to make sure the hose doesn't swim around, you secure it to the ground with brackets or whatever, like clamping it to the ground, this time when you shoot all that water through, if the hose can't move, the water will fly through faster. ( stiffer mounts )
Recap The stiffer / firmer your mounts are, the smoother / faster everything will react and theoretically transfer power faster, is this reduction in flex a night and day difference, probably not... but every little bit helps... and they aren't that expensive and is a nice fix for ppl addicted to modding ( myself )
