Tranny life...??

If a person is NOT into 1/4 mile times(ie-drag racing), NOT into stop light show off's(ie street racing), RARELY auto x's, but still intends to build out a solid engine, what is the assumed life of the OEM WRX tranny.
I had an '00 RS, I am just about to pick up an '03 WRX and I plan to considerably, but carefully, bulid up the engine, etc. I just want a capable and trustworthy vehicle. I DON'T want to spend $5000.00 plus on 6spd trannies, etc.
Basically, I want to know what to expect from the stock transmission.
Thanks,
RONIN

i'm probably going to buy a wrx soon as well and all these tranny problems are making me nervous. I will most likely have to buy a used 2002 model, possibly with little remaining warranty.
How significant are the tranny changes for 03?

ok iBlueVirus, i see you're getting questions about this update everyhwere you've mentioned it, maybe you should start a new thread "Here is the deal on the 2003 tranny update!" or something like that the same questions and answers don't appear in 10 different threads.
as far as the question itself, if you know, please tell us what specifically is included in the update, what it does/doesn't cure, etc.. Also, i read that you are having your 02 updated to the new specs, is this covered by warranty? Do you have to be experiencing problems with your current tranny to have them perfrom the upgrade or will they just do it on request like recall work just as a preventative measure?
thanks iBlueVirus

okay people... sorry i've been away for a while.... busy with girl.
anyway...
it's OEM subaru parts. if you 'blew' your tranny, i don't think they'll cover because it was broken under 'user error'. but if you are getting unusual grinding on 1st, 3rd, and 4th. Bring it in and talk to the dealership. They replace the gears and synchors.
it's not a recall, just an update, but only when necessary. like the clutch judder. I had grinding issues with my 1st and 4th and sometime 3rd. And yes, it's being replaced under warranty.
Did i miss anything?
