It's easier to change cars than it is to convert to a 6MT from a 4EAT. I also would recommend the standard center diff if you are doing a swap. You would need to make sure that your front and rear gear ratios matched.
I would however like to know if the $3500 package includes both center and front diffs. If so, it's a screaming good deal.

i called the parts dept of the local dealer and he told me this low price was news to him

doesn't the dccd default to a standard wrx-type torque split when disconnected/manfunctioning?

If someone could get me a part number off of the STI's tranny I could get a price. Anyone???? The part number should be right on the bellhousing edge like it is on the 5mt. Pm me with the number and I'll let everyone know how much it is.

Okay, here is the info. Part # GA670 price $5500. I personally think you would be insane to pay 5k for a gearset when you can buy the tranny that cheap.

Are you able to tell what's included for that $5500 price tag? Center DCCD? front diff?

Thanks,
Jason

Just wondering... Does the US spec 6MT still have that 1st gear lock out like the 5MT. ALL other manuals (minus the super low gear dump trucks) I have ever driven at least let you back into 1st @ 10-15 mph. I completely hate the fact you have to be almost stopped to get it in, even with rev matching it still sucks. Don't give me that, "you need to learn how to drive it" stuff. I just want to be able to pop it in 1st without having to "rev match".

So... comparing to the stock 5MT how does the 6MT feel, and does it go into 1st without rev match around 10 mph?

I'm sure you can buy the tranny without the diffs. It would be just a metter of ordering the parts from subaru just like the 5MT. Subaruparts.com said they should have all the parts listed online by January.

To the other post, it's not a 1st lockout. The 5MT just sucks that bad.

From what I have read it is designed to not allow you to get into first because the subaru engineers don't want everyone and their mother busting 1st gear with torque. So essentially it is a lock out of sort.

They should have just gave us the strong trans to begin with. Shoot just charge the extra 500 bucks or whatever it cost in the begining.

Well.. If the 5mt does have a 'lock out' to keep 1st gear alive.. Its not doing anything for my syncros. I wonder how long they'll last.
