cant wait till you have to slam on the breaks. Well anyway they can give alittle more traction to a 2wd car but still dose not compare to AWD. And improved breaking. LOL! it dose absolutly nothing to help breaking. LOL!

All these posts are great and everything................but none of us really know how the other drives their own car.
So, we can only tell stories about our experiences.
I changed to a SPEC stage 4 clutch at about 20K but I know for a fact that I drive that beast like it's stolen, that's why I don't post threads like this one.

I have never driven a clutch to it's death. And never before experienced any shudder.
Maybe I don't know how to drive stick?
Maybe there is some secret high performance AWD shifting ricer technique of which I am incapable?
Maybe I should just rationalize paying for a crap clutch by convincing myself that the shudder is the price of owning such a high performance, high traction 165hp sedan.

Once you get clutch shudder, it's like brake vibration- it gets worse until you fix it. If you got the TSB parts and you have even mild shudder, they need to replace them again, and this time do it right. Shudder can be induced by improperly installing the flywheel and pressure paltes. They are balanced and need to be properly aligned. Also, check your work order against the part numbers listed in the TSB and make sure you got the right ones, including the flywheel (that's the most important part, as that is what actually causes the shudder).

I thought the clutch shudder was a sign of how much character my high performance 165hp car had?

Yes there is .......

Yes and also if you can't accept it sell your car if you don't like the clutch and are unwilling to learn a different driving style ... nobody should be stuck with something they don't like =)

This thread is pretty much over, but that's only my opinion too
This is supposed to be a fun place, right?

I think you misunderstoood my post. I was actually agreeing with you, albeit sarcastically.
You are the only one who has repeatedly attributed the shudder to mechanics in this thread and others.

LOL!
I don't know why so many in this thread somehow think this guy can't drive and that's why he's got clutch shudder. You all need to step off.
Ever hear of the Subaru clutch shudder TSB?
My prievious Legacy came with light shudder when I bought the thing with 52K miles on it. It never got better or worse, until it wore out. Then Ron Price replaced it and the flywheel and the thing shook like a MOTHER right out of the dealership and got progressively worse from day one. I took it back and they told me that they would tear it down and look for a manufacturing defect. If they didn't find anything, I'd get charged for the teardown. That's why I will never go to Ron Price again except to use the bathroom.
Subaru clutches have problems with shudder. Its well documented. Some are worse than others. My 2003 WRX has had no problem at all for 15K miles.
Unless you've driven with the people who complain about this crappy Subaru problem, check yourselves.
MAN!

My apologies. I think I just spent too much time on the "I broke my gearbox and SOA won't pay for it" threads. Kinda carried it over.

For the record, I've had NO problems/complaints with the gearbox itself or with any other part of the car for that matter.

How long has the 2.5L tranny been around? Before 1999? If this problem started with 1999 models, it's the lot/batch of clutch/flywheels supplied by the OE manufacturer that slipped Subaru quality controls.
This is not a Subaru design or engineering problem; it's a quality control problem. It's a problem that originated from the OE supplier/manufacturer of the clutch/flywheel (Exedy?) that Subaru didn't detect until enough "bad" drivers started complaining.
Subaru probably used one of these bad clutch/flywheels as a replacement part on your Legacy.
So I complain about this, and people who have never been in the same car with me start mouthing off about how I can't drive AWD.
How many post-TSB '04+ Subarus or Audi Quattros have clutch shudder problems?
