stuck tranny
I have a '99 2.5RS with a 5 speed manual tranny that is stuck in 3rd gear. The shifter position looks like it is half way out and will not move out completely. The linkage to the shifter is not bound and the shaft going into the tranny moves back and forth about 1/2". I am wondering if it is easier to tear into the tranny from under the car or is it easier to take it completely out. If I am to take the tranny out what things should I look out for, ie. what to do first, etc. Also, any ideas about what I should look for would be welcome. I am not looking to dump money into it, due to a sti engine and tranny swap that will take place after I get tax money back. Unfortunately it is my daily driver, so I need quick fix.

Unbolt the transmission support and place a jack under it, there should be one pin inside each axle, use a center punch to jam them out and with the car jacked up turn the wheels to the extreme measures of each way and each axle should pop off, you might have to have a friend push on the back on the tranny side to side to get each of them off

did you ever get your car fixed? what was the issue? Becasue my tranny is having the same problem. third is stuck but looks like its in neutral. same situation underneath the car. I dropped my car off to rallispec since they built my RA tranny(which is 2300 Miiles old). My guess was that its something to do with the forks. But I have no idea really. Let me know if you got it sorted out. thanks dude
