stinkin second
my car hates the go into second. once its warmed up its not so bad but on a cold morning i just rev it high and go right into third. when i try to put it in second sometimes it goes in other times its even grind with the clutch pinned to the floor. double cluthing helps it go in smoother but its not the way it should. Whats is wrong ? thnx

when i blew second gear i was looking for the strongest yet lowest cost gear solution. I ended up having 2009 gears put in my 2002 case at DB. The 2009 gears are way better. Thicker, taller, better suited for my 2.5, and better gas mileage on the freeway.

Nothing is "not lining up" - The trans would basically explode if that were the case.
Synchros dont have teeth to lose - baulk rings dont move more than a few degrees from the sleeve.. .. The gear itself has dogs that the sleeve locks into - but those wont grind together if the synchro was slowing down the gear properly.. Excessive wear on the sleeve can allow it to bypass the baulk ring causing a grind as well..
So - either the synchro or some components of it are severely worn or a combination of wear and incorrect fluid use..
Automotive store "Gear lubes" are meant for differentials and way way too slick for manual transmissions and proper synchro engagement..

reduce wear
also is there anything i can do to lessen the wear and make it last longer. from what I have heard gear boxes on subarus arent the greates and second gear going is common. Is this true ?
there's a 'synchro coctail' i remember reading about on RS25's forums, I hear it's pretty good to help delay onsetting of synchros going bad - helps shifting etc; I'm planning to try it on my 02 wrx at some point, 1st has hiccups every now and then
