STI Transmission!!

Well after only 113K on my car, my STI Transmission is starting to call it Quits (so much for BULLET PROOF) What I know so far is that one or more bearings is going out, and fifth gear syncro needs to be replaced as of right now I got a ruff estimate of $1400 that's for the parts and labor need so far but they wont know until its torn apart, my question is should I just rebuild or get used, and if so I'm located in Merced so any info on good shops will help thanks..

No such thing as "bulletproof". Considering used STi 6MTs go for $1500 on up for the transmission alone, I think $1400 for parts and labor is getting off easy.

yeah very true on the Bulletproof just funny how its giving out since the car is never tracked/drag, car has seen maybe 100mph once lol... the 1400 is just an estimate right now the price can go up very quickly once its torn apart... still just trying to figure something out since im a very tight budget.

Lol well I know its not my Shifting every vehicle I had was or is Stick shift.. one thing about the car I am the second owner I got when it had 50k on the car. I know it was abused because when I got it from the dealer they just replaced the engine and turbo, so I know the first owner did have some fun with it. my car has always ran great I keep up on maintenance like clock work, I guess the transmission just needs to be refreshed now!!

FYI going fast isn't going to be a problem, if it was my transmission would have gone out within the first week or two of me owning my STI. Its how you shift, how you take off, how you engage the clutch and match the rpms with your speed. its how you downshift, if your rpm matching when you downshift.
Maybe previous owner learned how to drive stick with it before you bought it..

agree.. definitely nothing is "bulletproof"

just get it rebuilt. at least you know that there is nothing wrong with it and its brand new. Most used ones already have more than 60-70k+ on it already and you don't know how the previous owner took care of it.

I know you are in Merced but there is some pretty cool stuff you can do with the Center diff while its out. Also make sure you have the work done by someone who knows our trannys.
