Short shift... oil change... Brand?
Hello guys... i have few question about my transmission. Hope u can help me out!!! ( my car is 2003 wrx manual 5200miles on it)
1. My car came with OE short shift. Am i still able to install carboy short shift kit?
2. I just found out the Transmission fluid level is a bit lower than it require. Whcih brand's Transmission fluid Subaru use for 03 wrx? will it cause damage if i keep driving now?
3. when is the best time to change my transmission fluid to synthetic ? Also should i also use synthetic Engine fluid at the same time?
Thanks for reply ... appreciate...!!!

Aloha, you should used royal purple synthetic tranny oil you'll noticed a big difference as far as synthetic motor oil you could make a debate some people say mobil 1 or redline and even castrol. I just know this I've been using mobil 1 in every new car or truck I've ever own. It run cooler and that's important if you live in the southwest. According to the manual you should change your tranny oil every 15k and of course 7500 but if you do alot of city driving I would go with the old rule and do it every 3k. I did change my tranny oil early, I waited until I put atleast 6k. And now I have 9400 miles on the car and it runs great if not better then new I hope this helps. Keoni_c

Just switched to Redline 75-90NS. The front end is trickey, it has the LSD for the front/rear, and the diff for the front, and the transmission/syncro's. Cobb tuning recommends MT90, which I amy also try. The 75-90NS definitely improved the feel and noise output from the tranny.
In regards to Kartboy, I think you already have the ideal short shifter, you just need to stiffen up the bushings in it with the Kartboy bushings. I would leave the actually shifter mechanism in place. The Kartboy, etc. units are just shorter lever arms.

Another Kartboy question
I'm getting my Rexer at the end of March and I'm wondering whether I should get the OE short shifter option or the Kartboy. The OE is so much more $$$ but I am getting it at dealer cost and I know that it comes with the entire linkage(not just the lever). I've heard tons of good things about the Kartboy shifter and it seems easy to install. I guess my question is whether the linkage that comes with the OE short shifter is any better than the one that comes with the stock version. Also, has anybody had problems with their Kartboy shifter besides the problem of hitting the retaining plate? Any advice on which one to get?

Synthetic change for engine oil
I'd wait on the syn. oil for your engine til approx 10k. Heard from a few reliable sources that engine won't seat properly if you switch to syn oil prior to 10k.
Personally, I'll probably go wiyh Mobil 1. In the past, I've used Redline, and was very happy with it, but cost is way up there. Collins
