shifting notchy, doesn't seem as smooth after tranny oil change

Hi everyone. A couple of weeks ago I replaced the transmission and the rear diff with Valvoline 75W-90 gear oil. It doesn't seem to shift as well anymore, and it is especially rough when its cold. When I filled it up I was actually over the FULL line a little bit, but though once it all settled and ran it it would drop a little bit. It hasn't dropped. Do you think that this could be a problem. It is just a little bit over the full. I figured it wouldn't be bad to go over a little. It happens...right? Anyway I'm trying to figure out if I'm just tripping about it shifting bad, or if I put the wrong stuff, or its too full. Can anyone shed some light on things?

Locate some Swepco fluid, flush your tranny and put in the Swepco.

If you can't locate it in your area, contact Noah of LICMotorsports, he mentioned to me he has shipped it, but that might only be to previous customers.

That was all I can find in Amado, AZ where I did the tune-up. Now that I'm back maybe I'll try to flush it completely. Anyone have any other suggestions on gear oil to use?

I've been driving it with the Valvoline for 3 weeks. You think that is fine? I don't wanna do severe damage to the tranny.

As I said before, SWEPCO fluid. In the mean time double clutch, that should make it a little smoother.

Had problems with valvoline oil, replaced it with Extra-S. Get some Subaru Extra-S oil and be done. Best gear fluid for these transmissions period. I'v got 145k miles on my original transmission.

yes the subaru extra-s is great. but, hard to come buy unless your willing to get the 5 gallon jug or pay over $25 bucks for a quart.

NICE link.

I've been needing to change the transmission fluid and hated the idea of spending so much money for extra-s.

I've asked the "what transmission fluid" question to a bunch of people. Almost all of them say OEM extra-s.

Rear diff needs a friction additive.

Funny my transmission shifts better with valvoline 75W90 and a quart of GM synchromesh than with redline. I guess my cars just a cheap date

Hey, new guy here with the same situation - hard to shift into 1st and the other gears aren't as smooth.

I bought the car used with about 84k miles on it. clutch has been replaced before but not sure when.

I was told that this could also be a bushing? anyone know about this and possibly have a DIY bushing replacement guide?

And while we're on the topic, anyone have service manuals on a PDF?
