RA gears

I have a 2002 WRX and was wondering about the performance differences between the stock gears and RA ones? I plan on keeping the stock 5th gear as most of my miles are on the highway, but what kinda mileage drop should I expect in street driving? What kind of acceleration gains?

are RA gears stronger than stock? or just a better (acceleration) gear ratio?
