Questions about STi short shifter please advise!!

A guy at Carlsen sub told me the short shifter is terrible and disadvantageous and definitely not to get it. What do you all think about this?? opinions needed.

Get the kartboy short shifter and bushing instead. It is cheaper, easier to install and give a greater reduction in throw. 10% subaru short shifter versus 40% throw reduction in the kart boy.

Is he telling you thing cuz he wants you to buy a car that's already on the lot without that option?

I have the 05 factory short shifter. either way you'll want something.
I haven't tried the KB so I can't offer thoughts on it.

I've driven STis with and without the STi short shift. I like it, so if an STi that I was considering came with it, I'd be happy. I'd also be happy if an STi I wanted didn't have it, because I'd just get a Kartboy. What I wouldn't do is pay for the STi shift linkage after the sale, because I don't think it's worth what it costs from the parts department.

Remember, a car salesman almost never knows a damn thing about cars. He knows how to sell (if he's lucky). Don't give a lot of creedence to what salesmen tell you.

Ok thanks, im going to get one then. Well this dealer is claimed by iclubbers to be one of the best, the guy seemed cool on the phone and he has 2 sti's, 1 of which he races. But don't worry i still know that car sales is a dirty dirty business so until I have my Sti i'm not getting my hopes up.

Hey, I didn't say he can't be a nice guy. Just don't expect a sales guy to tell you the truth as it benefits you, only as it benefits him. And Carlsen does indeed have a good reputation.

Well the invoice on a short shifter is 400, and because we'll we didn't order any with it our guys are going to have to install it, and well they work on comission so there is much i can really do.....so you are going to be looking at hmmm let's see about 400 for shifter combined with 2 million for labor lets see, that puts you right at 2 million 500, ohh wait a miscalculation in your favor, sorry 2 million 400 dollars for the shifter installed, oh yea thats before tax.

The 6MT Subaru STi oem Short Shifter works great, its a complete linkage system.

I just installed mine, and I love it.

If you need it shorter than that, just install the KB SS lever on the STi SS linkage, for the best feel and proper proportions.

I got my 05 wrx with the Sti short shifter. I didn't want it at first, but Andrew (RSTURBO) told me that it is a good idea because it is a Subaru installed part. If anything ever goes wrong with it, subaru will cover it under warranty. Then again, a Subaru warranty doesn't cover much when it comes to trannies. We'll see.
