Questions about STi Short Shifter????

So a guy at Carlsen says the short shifter is terrible, that is actually disadvantageous to shifting and not to get an Sti with one. Is this true?? how does everyone else feel about them???

I bought the STi short-throw shifter as a factory installed option on my 03 WRX Sedan. Personally, I wouldn't be without it. I drove WRXs with the short throw and without and there is no comparison...shifting is much easier and feels more positive with a good short-throw linkage and the STi stuff is very good.

Of course, the WRX Sedan with it's manual 5-speed is different from the STi. But, my experience with Subaru has lead me to trust their judgement in hardware... they don't sell junk.

I'm guessing that "Carlsen" is car dealer or aftermarket shop? I suspect he's trying to blow some smoke...

The original post is a little vague. Yes, Carlsen Subaru is a dealership in Redwood City (Bay Area). I can't tell for sure but the member may be asking about the factory optional short shifter for the STi 6MT tranny. There are members who are driving the STi with this shifter option but I don't know how it compares to aftermarket offerings from Kartboy and others.

if this is for the 6spd then dont waste your $$ the reduction is only 10% for 400+. got with an aftermarket one. i believe ours with shifter bushings is less than half that with a reduction of 40%.

Just get the Kartboy shift lever, and don't forget the bushings. For the one dealer sales person who said a short shifter was no good I can point you to dozens of threads that say the opposite.
