newbie question on shifting

okay this 04 wrx is my first manual-_-. Anyways i drive smooth only by rev matching while upshifting [most of the time]. The problem is, i started to notice something werid. From 1st to 2nd gear, i rev match and something when i blip the gas, it doesn't give a reving sound but a "BLOP" sound instead, like a rock dropping into a pound. Is something wrong?
1st gear -> clutch in-> blip gas-> revs or sometimes does a "blop" sound.
Is this a problem!?!?

I have no idiea what that "Blop" sound is but there is no reason to rev-match while upshifting. Rev-matching and double-clutching are used when downshifting to make a smoother and easier downshift (and double clutching will also save some wear on the synchros). So don't try to rev-match when upshifting.... just shift.
that blop sound. is your car totally stock?? sounds like you just have unburned gas going into tyour exhaust, but techincally that doesn't happen unless u remove at least 1 cat on the car. even if it's the precat in the uppipe, i would know because i removed that one,. and my car pops like crazy between swifts, i also have a 100% atmospheric bov tho which also makes it run even more rich than the car is already doing.

1st of all, why are u rev-matching on upshift? On the upshift u protect the synchros by clutching into neutral between gears, but not revving. What your are doing is supposed to be done on the downshift, and actually creates more work for the synchros on the upshift.
2nd, how big is your cat-back? An oversized pipe could be causing this back-fire.

backfires sound pretty tight, but yeah i agree it could be the exhaust and unburnt gas too...what better sound to hear then hearing the sound of a huge pop when you are downshifting, accompanied by a small ball of flame lol...= scaring the ish out of the car behind you and for the wannabee ricer =
that guys car must be off the hook LOL

subarus backfire stock.. the only reason you dont notice it that much when they are stock is the exhaust muffles most of it. When you swap the exhaust system, you hear it a lot clearer.
the only time you need to rev match is when you are downshifting...when you get that jerky feeling whenever you are upshifting don't let the clutch out so quick it will make things alot smoother...(don't blip the throttle)

Make sure your airbox is secure. I had a similar problem. When I would rev match on a downshift, the airbox would move a little and hit the side of the engine bay. The sound was muffled inside the cabin, but when I opened the hood and had someone rev it for me I saw the problem.

check your coolant level it might be low ... i had the same sound coming from my engine and i filled up the coolant level and the sound went away....
take the cap off (coolant) sweeze the big black hose connected to the radiator to displace any air and add coolant.
edgar,
if that dont work then i dont know :P
